                                                                   The Chakras

                                                            By James Offenhartz

The chakras according to dictionary.com means "in yoga, any of the seven major energy center of the body".  People who practice yoga tend to hear voices from spirit since their chakras are in tune.  Chakra also means "Wheel" or "Disk" in ancient Sanskrit.  This is due to the fact that the chakras spin and although the chakra system did come from yoga, the chakras also came from Hinduism and were prevalent before Jesus.  The seven chakras are the root chakra, groin chakra, stomach chakra, heart chakra, throat chakra, third eye chakra and the crown chakra.  The first three chakras are about survival whereas the upper chakras are about Spirituality.

The root chakra is at the base of the spine.  It is the chakra that deals with being present.  The food is beef or four legged animals such as lamb or pig, or if you are a vegetarian other proteins such as nuts or tofu.  The color of the first chakra is red.  This chakra deals with being grounded and feeling the rhythm of the earth.  It is also the chakra of anger and survival.  It is at the base of the spine.  The musical note is C, the affirmation is "I am,"  the Sanskrit word for it is Muladhara, and the element is Earth.  Without this chakra being in tune, none of the other chakras can work.  Since this chakra deals with the rhythms of the earth, it allows the rhythms of the body to function as well, which is why this chakra deals with the bowels and regularity.  In order for this chakra to work, both feet should be on the ground or one should be in the lotus position.  Carnivorus animals also tend to be well grounded.  For example, if you listen to the breathing  of a dog and try to breathe at the same rate as the dog, you will likely become grounded.  Another simple way to get in touch with this chakra is to sit against a tree and relax.  After a few minutes you will feel the rhythms of the Earth.  You can also lean against a building, and although it will take longer, you can feel the rhythm of the Earth in this way as well.  In order for the chakras to work, it is important to keep one's back as straight as possible.

The second chakra is the groin chakra.  The food is water and the color is orange, which is a combination of red, the color of the root chakra and yellow, the color of the stomach chakra.  The musical note is D, the affirmation is "I feel,"  the element is water, and the Sanskrit word is Svadhisthana, which means sweetness.   In both men and women this chakra includes the large intestine, the lower vertebrae, the pelvis, the appendix, the bladder, and the hip area.  This is also one of the ways that Siritualists and Hindus are different from other mainstream religions.  Certain other religions believe that sexuality with others or with one's self is a sin, whereas in Spiritualism we believe it is a normal part of the life cycle, creation, and creativity.  According to Louise Hay, people who are in touch with this chakra get fewer migraines.  The reason why is because sexuality allows blood to move from the brain to other areas of the body.

The third chakra is the stomach chakra and is located in the stomach. The organs are the upper intestine, the liver, the gall bladder, the kidneys, the pancreas, the adrenal glands, the spleen and the middle spine.  The food is starch, the color of this chakra is yellow, the musical note is E, the element is fire, and the Sanskrit word is Manipura, which means lustrous gem.   The affirmation is "I can."  It is the chakra of power, self esteem, vitality, strong will, empowerment, and egotism.  It is located in the solar plexus and is generally the chakra associated with physical mediumship such as table tipping, spoon bending, levitation, etc.

The fourth chakra is the heart chakra, also known as the central chakra, since there are three chakras above it and three chakras below it.  The organs are the heart, the circular system, the lungs, the shoulders, the arms, the ribs, the breasts, the diaphragm, and the thymus gland.  The color of this chakra is green, which interestingly, is a combination of yellow, which is the stomach chakra, and blue the color of the throat chakra.  The food of the heart chakra is vegetables, the musical note is "F."  The element for the fourth chakra is air, and the word in Sanskrit is Anahata.  The affirmation is "I love."  This chakra deals with love and envy.  Buddhists place particular emphasis on this chakra.

The fifth chakra is the throat chakra and the food is fruit.  The color is blue and the musical note is G.  The organs include the throat, the thyroid, the trachea, neck vertebrae, the mouth, teeth, gums, the esophagus, the parathyroid, and the hypothalamus.  The affirmation is "I speak, the element is ether, and the Sanskrit word is Vishudda which means purity.  This chakra, not suprisingly deals with communication, healing, sadness, and calmness.  Also, according to Louise Hay's book "YOU CAN YOU'RE YOUR LIFE."  "THE THROAT represents our ability to "speak up" for ourselves, "to ask for what we want".... The energy center in the throat, the fifth chakra, is the place in the body where change takes place.  When we are resisting change or are in the middle of change or are trying to change, we often have a lot of activity in our throats."  On a different note, although we, as Spiritualists, do not believe in meanings to each color, generally, if a person is ill in a particular place, it is recommended that they wear blue clothing in that area.  For example, if a prson's foot hurts, they should wear blue socks.  Also, fpr as long as I can remember I have been able to see people's aura and generally, if you look at a healer's aura during a healing you will see a lot of blue.

The sixth chakra is the third eye chakra and the food is divine substance.  Divine substance is being fed by spirit without physically eating.  The color is indigo, the musical note is A, the element is light, and the Sanskrit word is Ajna which means third eye chakra.  The organs include the brain, the nervous system, the eyes, the ears, the nose, and the pituitary gland.  The affirmation is "I see."  This is the chakra that deals with the ability to see things with your eyes as well as clairvoyance.  Also, from my perspective, I see two meanings: The obvious meaning of physical sight as in "I see you," and the more sensitive meaning of showing understanding such as if someone tells you their troubles saying, "I see."

The seventh chakra is the crown chakra which is at the top of the head.  The food is fasting, the colors are violet, gold, and white, the sense is beyond self, and the Sanskrit word is Sahasrara.  Violet is a combination of the color blue, which is the throat chakra, and red, which is the color of the root chakra.  The musical note is B.  The organs are the muscular system, the skeletal system, and the skin.  This is the chakra that allows divine communication and communication with the so-called dead.  However, it is important to be grounded before allowing white light to come through this chakra.  Also, we should remember we are the medium through whom the messages are given and we get help from the chakras and the spirit guides.

You will notice that the colors I have mentioned form the rainbow which, when put together, form the color white.  White is the color of yang as in yin and yang.  This is the color of protection, the color of perfection.  Generally, when meditating, it isrecommended that people  surround themselves with this white light for protection.  Knowing about the chakras can help us meditate more efficiently and for those who see the aura it can help us understand what type of emotion other people are experiencing.   I have also found that our chakras are more in tune after our healers give thier healing.  When I had an aura picture taken I had some red in my heart chakra where there should have been green, after receiving the healing the colors in  my body were blue, the color of healing, and pink, which is the color of love.  I hope my sermon today has helped each of you balance your chakras and I thank you for this opportunity to serve spirit.
